HK J Paediatr (new series) 1996;1:207-220 The First Joint Scientific Meeting of Hong Kong College of Paediatricians and Guangdong Pediatric Society of the Chinese Medical Association May 25, 1996 | Eleven patients were treated with HLA mismatched BMT in 1986 to 1955. All patients are male, aged from 1 to 29 years old. They were suffered form severe aplastic anemia, thalassemia, acute lymphoblastic leukemia or chronic myeloblastic leukemia. HLA typing were 1 to 3 loci mismatched, 4 cases of thalassemia were haploid matched. Engraftment occurred in 8 out of 11 patients, engrafting rate 72.7% (8/11). Four patients ill with leukemia are alive without disease for more than two years, survival rate 36.3% (4/11). Conditioning regimen: majority of the patients were treated with cyclophosphamide 110-120mg/kg and received single total body irradiation 750 cGy. Eight patients who got engraftment all had GVHD, 2 of them died of lethal hyperacute GVHD. It suggested that in mismatched BMT, the prevention and treatment of GVHD are very important.
