Special Lecture 11th James H Hutchison Memorial Lecture: Evidence-Based Paediatrics Abstract It is very difficult for practising paediatricians to keep up to date as there are an average of 19 new articles appearing in paediatric journals every day. The practice of Evidence-Based Medicine allows data from clinical trials to be synthesised into easily readable Systematic Reviews such as those in the Cochrane Library. In many areas of paediatrics, especially neonatology and paediatric surgery most clinical decisions are evidence-based but for community paediatrics it is clear that more research and audit is needed. Professor James H Hutchison would I am sure, be pleased with our progress to embrace Evidence-Based Paediatrics but we could still do better.
